Wow, What a System!

Pros Wonderful Lows, Mids, and Highs. Great price. Wonderful interface.
Cons Bass can be a little "rumbly".
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would HIGHLY reccomed this system to anyone looking to get quailty sound from a small system for a room that is small or large as well.
Wow. What a system!

In my quest for a new stereo system I needed these things:

ONLY Two Speakers
Remote Control
At lest 200W
At least 3CD Capacity
Quality

So, one night I brought over, what I thought to be, my best "testing" cds. These were ones that would test all aspects of the System, including the Low, Mid, and High ends of the sound spectrum. I highly recommend bringing your favorite CDs with you, as it will really help you to figure out which system is suitable for you. Personally I brought Fleetwood Mac's The Dance. Listening to the CD I was extremely impressed with all of them. But after testing all of them out I was most happy with a Philips FWC399. It had great sound, a really nice interface, and it was the only one that looked normal. So, I left the store and came back about a week later and went to buy it. The person at the store informed me that I could buy last year's model of the FWC550, which had the same exact specifications as the FWC399, but costed 40$ less. So instead of paying the full price, $200, I paid only $129.99 for my FWC 550. What a DEAL!

Sound

Ahh, the sweet sounds that come from the speakers of my FWC550. I am not sure that I could possibly be more satisfied with the sound quality of the system, for the price. The Low Range sound from this system is amazing. I am not sure how such a large amount of Bass can come out of such small speakers, although the speakers are a little larger than most other systems'. There are three levels of bass to choose from, and I am unable to use the highest two because it is just too loud to have in my house. The system is situated in a 10x11 bedroom which isn't very tolerating with volume. So, as a result, I am only able to use the system to a small capacity most of the time, but for the other few times it can go loud! Every once I a while I will turn the sound up ALL THE WAY and boy is it a treat to the ears! The sound is so crisp and clear, without any "lazy" bass. Its amazing how such a small system can make such HUGE sound. What is really great about this system, is that even when the volume level is down low, the bass, the mids, and the highs are still crystal clear and perfectly defined. The low-volume clarity of the speakers is amazing. I would also recommend this for a large room as well. Its volume is extensive, and as I mentioned before, the bass is just heart-stopping.

Interface

The system's "dashboard" is very comprehensive and easy to understand. It offers a jog wheel for the sound settings, which include "Digital Sound Control" and "Virtual Ambieance Control" (the latter of which I found worthless), and four buttons for the functions, "CD" "TUNER" "TAPE" "AUX IN". There are also three buttons at the top of the system, each to use for selecting and playing the selected CD (one of three that you can store within the system at one given time) at the same time. There are also other buttons that are used to set the station presets and to use for setting the clock and timer. To the right is a fairly large, and therfore easy to control, volume knob.

The remote control is also extremely simple to use, as the buttons are well laid out. There are controls for everything on the remote control that are on the system, and even more. The manual that came with the system was also extremely comprehensive, and answered every question that I had. The system was also easy to set up.

Overall

I would HIGHLY reccomend this system after having it for about 3 months. I have played countless hours of music on it and I am completely satisfied with it, and its performance. It would be great for a bedroom, as well as a larger room, such as a family room or a kitchen, etc.

Good luck with your sound equipment purchase.
