The Bottom Line:
This unit is a real surprise. Compare to newer systems in the $200 range - and can be found considerably cheaper! If you find one, buy it!
I bought this C577 system 3 years ago at the local pawn shop for a song... I was looking for something cheap for out on our deck at the lake cabin. I was greatly and pleasantly surprised! After listening to CDs for an evening I had to pull up the specs to see where all this great sound was coming from: This unit has A LOT of real power for its size. I set the stock speakers aside (even though they're pretty good sounding in their own right), and I drive an inexpensive large car box housing a pair of 12 inch wolfers, midrange & tweeters. The sound is phenominal! Lots of accurate bass, great midrange, and nice crisp highs - very little distortion even at higher volume levels, and enough power to wake the neighbors and scare the fish! I have not taken advantage of the extras, perhaps I will try it in the future with the computer at home. But this guy does everything I want it to! This unit looks similar to other low end "bookshelf" stereos, so may be overlooked at your local Goodwill, pawn shop or Craigslist! If you are able to find one, you should get a great price on it... I paid $35 for mine!
