Nice unit. If you can find one cheap, do it!
Pros
Power, clean sound, overall design.
Cons
remote control, durability?
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Because I have some concerns about the durability, I would encourage people to buy it on the cheap.
I lucked out and found one of these cheap on eBay. I think it was about $50 plus shipping. Compare that to a retail of around $180 (I think).
It hasn't been perfect, by any means, but it is good for my needs. It replaces a full stereo system. So I wanted power and several cds, and radio. I wanted to be able to fill my living room/kitchen with big sound.
This unit, with it's "WOOX" bass system and high wattage, cranks nicely.
Here are the setbacks thus far (after about 4 months of daily use): the remote control doesn't work very well. Not all of the commands work. Bummer! The only other setback was this: when I first got the machine, it worked fine, then the cds got trapped inside and it wouldn't open up. I was going to send it back. But I carefully opened up the unit (using just a screwdriver), looked around, put the cover back on, and it's worked ever since.
My only design critique is this: the bass/subwoofer things face upward from the speakers. That means you get less room to pile stuff (especially cds) on top of the unit. My wife often covers those bass speakers with cds. I suppose a tray, rather than a stack of cds would be a bit nicer too. Oh, and the radio is a tad hard to program.
But, overall, you can get a really nice, clean, powerful home stereo for very little money. With units like this, the huge component systems are no longer de rigueur.
