If your looking for a No Fuss TV set well this PS1955C (or XS1955) is a very acceptable low-end Stereo TV. I purchase this set for the Laundry room.
Let?s go over the unit and it?s components:
TV Unit: Is a nice, no unnecessary frills box with an easy to find POWER ON button on front and your mandatory Channel / Sound Up/Down. Just to be a bit critical, these buttons are horizontal and I must admit I prefer Vertical. The back panel only has a Video IN/OUT and an Audio L/R and obviously your COAX connection. Now from that you can easily deduct that this is not a set for a Home Cinema setup or for any high-end usage.
IMAGE: The image is clear and crisp and can be changed through this nifty little option called ?Smart Picture?. This lets you change the video control from ?Personal? which has a good balance of crispness and softness and good color, to ?Movies? which darkens the colors to ?Sports? which highlights the colors to ?Weak Control? which softens the image and lastly ?Video Games? which gives the highest crispness image.
SOUND: Sound is good and let?s face as good as any other TV set in the same category. The nice little thing is what they call the ?Smart Sound? which, when switched on, will use the level setting of the Show your watching as the Highest setting so that when it switches to a Commercial you don?t get blasted. It works. Note that this feature only works when sound comes from the Cable but not from an AUX entry such as a VCR.
SETUP: That?s where I must say I?m a bit disappointed. The On-Line menu is not very user friendly. You get this cramped listing where, when you scroll through it you will suddenly switch color because you are under a ?new? setting category. Not obvious at all. I know my electronics and I shouldn?t have had to look in the User Manual OR take more than five seconds to be able to Automatically Setup the Channels.
REMOTE CONTROL: Is small, lightweight and easy. The only drawback is that they should have put the Power Button a different color. All buttons are white.
USER MANUAL: Good, short and full or diagrams. Kudos on this one.
