Love at First Sound

Pros Great sound, great price, easy to use, high quality, durable.
Cons You'll want to buy more CDs!
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is a great deal. Of the CD players that I looked at, the cheaper ones did not have the good reputation that Pioneer does and have bad quality.
I don't know how I managed to drive so long without a CD player in my car. This CD player is well worth everything I paid for it. Pioneer has a good reputation of providing quality products and I am very pleased with this product. A few of my friends also have this same player and they seem to also like it.

I bought this player at Best Buy and at the time, (I don't know if it is still offered), installation was free on all CD players that cost more than $100. However, my car is very old so I ended up paying more because I had to have some extra labor (which included things like removing an old amp and rewiring the antenna). Still I paid under $200 for the CD player and installation.

The CD player is pretty easy to use. I had no trouble programming radio stations (there are 18 fm and 6 am stations). The clock is also easy to set. The instruction manual makes everything easy to understand. It is easy and not distracting to change stations and CD songs while driving. However, I still have trouble finding the CD pause and repeat buttons without looking down. There are also audio settings (powerful, vocal, super bass, flat, normal, and loud) that are easy to switch between to make any type of music sound good. I also like this CD player because it has a detachable face. That was one of the most important features I looked for when shopping around.

The sound is great. I find that the sound is the best when it is set to "powerful" and the "loud" button is on. Some songs that are very vocal or have a very heavy bass might need to be adjusted to another setting. Usually, if you simply turn of the "loud" button, the music will sound good in those cases. Sound quality is good overall and I have never had a CD skip.

Additionally, I like the fact that volume, stations, and songs are changed with buttons, not knobs. It is easy to switch between radio stations that are not programmed in with these buttons. I noticed that in some other car CD players, if a radio station wasn't programmed in, the players scrolled stations extremely fast and it was impossible to find the station you wanted. It is not so in this case.

I don't have any big complaints about this Pioneer. The only thing I wish it had is a station scan that plays a few seconds from each radio station I have programmed in. Also, it would be nice if it came with a carrying case for the detachable face. Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase.
