this is great cd stereo to buy if you are interested in not paying extra for new speakers. this system works well with factory speakers, utilizing them to their full potential.

the system comes with six possible sound settings. the treble, bass and mid-range can be altered in all of these:

powerful - all instruments and vocals are souped up. this is a very loud setting, good for listening to prince or when no one else is in the car. too high, though, and the sound becomes distorted.

super bass - only suitable for hip-hop, rap and some acid jazz. don't play it loud if you're using factory speakers.

custom - this is a good setting for most radio play, jazz especially.

vocal - good for listening to fiona apple and other music with strong vocal presence.

natural - sounds bland and very quiet.

eq flat - i don't know why anyone would want to use this. it sounds like a transistor radio. perhaps it's good for am stations.

don't turn the system up too high (not past 22) or you may be in danger of blowing your speakers.

if you are in the market for new speakers, this system will undoubtedly work well with those. a couple of the settings (powerful, super bass) may be too much for factory speakers, but will probably work well with higher end speakers.

the system is a little complicated to learn, if you want to do more than change channels and songs (i still haven't figured out how to set the clock). it is suggested that you read the manual (which i have not done yet) or have the salesperson review the product with you thoroughly before pushing any buttons.

the detachable face is awkward. you have to pull it out slowly and apply pressure to get it out. i don't know if this has to do with the installation or not, but i always feel like i'm going to break it when i remove it.

the color face is attractive, though i'm not sure it really helps in any way. a convenience of the player is the cd stop/start mechanism. when you change the source (i.e. from cd to fm radio), the cd stops at the point where you left it. if you change the source again (i.e. from fm radio to cd), the cd begins a few seconds before the point where you stopped it. this is nice because it avoids having to listen to a song from the beginning.

it's a good system for the price. and it's pretty, too!
