The Bottom Line:
The price point and sound quality make this a good value.
I purchased the Pioneer DEH-P5900IB as a replacement for the factory radio. About nine months after I purchased the unit, I added the XM Radio receiver.
I installed the unit myself. I recommend that you purchase an adapter kit so that you can connect the unit with the factory wiring harness...it saves so much time and reduces so many headaches. I found the installation instructions to be clear and easy to follow.
The unit requires some adaptation on your part. The unit is mostly controlled by a single knob. A remote control is available and a must-use when driving. Once you adapt to the paradigm, you can navigate fairly quickly.
I am very satisfied with the quality of sound produced by the unit. I have installed the unit in a pickup with a diesel engine. The sound quality at a louder volume is great.
The CD player is a solid performer. So far, no skips. The unit has played all of the home-burned MP3 discs I have thrown at it.
The AM/FM receiver disappoints me. I expected much more from Pioneer. My unit struggles to acquire and hold signals that my factory radio acquired and held with no problem. If you want this unit primarily as a FM/AM receiver, you may want to keep looking.
The XM receiver plug-in is great. It is worth the extra $$$. It is an easy installation and it integrates very well (as one would expect) with the unit.
Everything considered, I'm content with my purchase.
