Pioneer keeps getting better! This is my 5th one!
Pros
Powerful 50 Watt deck, extremely customizable, always get compliments on the animated graphics.
Cons
Tedious faceplate installation and removal and flipdown for CD insert.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
CD's never skip, removeable faceplate, customizeable EQ settings, outstanding graphics, dimmer settings, best value for the money.
Here's my experience with Pioneer:
1st Pioneer had Orange backlighting.
2nd Pioneer was cool bluish green.
3rd Pioneer improvements in buttons and Equalizer settings
4th Pioneer came with theft alarm and updated design.
I've always chosen Pioneer and now know what to look for in one. I bought the DEH-P7300 because I wanted to buy XM radio. I have tried other brands like my favorite Sony, but Pioneer puts out the best Bass and usually has one of the highest power output ratings such as 50 Watts. Highs are crisp and Bass is punchy without distortion. Controls are bi-directional and the display will light with arrows to show which arrow buttons are currently active. If you take your time and just mess around with the SLA and EQ settings, you will be pleased with the customization. You can also choose at least 5 other preset EQ settings such as Flat, Powerful (best), Bass, Vocal, Custom1 and Custom2.
Another reason why I like my Pioneer is that each one I've ever owned NEVER skipped a CD. I could drive on a washboard gravel road and never skip a beat. I could also play severely scratched CD's where other players would have trouble. This is important to me since I listen to CD's alot.
This deck features ASL (Automatic Sound Levelizer) which I turned on by mistake. It's meant to adjust the volume based upon road noise and engine speed. It was too annoying for me to use it as I prefer to keep my music thumping at my preferred level. It was never really that accurate to begin with. Other features include preset SFEQ settings in which you can concentrate more Treble and sound level to certain speakers. Kind of like setting up a home theatre surround: 5:1, Game, Hall, Acoustic. This would come in handy for different vehicle types such as a two seater car or pickup or minivan.
XM Radio is CD Quality and easy to hook up with a few cables to the receiver box. I sometimes get impatient while I wait for a station to start playing. The display will load the name of the theme station but I was disappointed that XM doesn't show you the name of the artist currently playing. You can easily flip through 170 stations in increments of 10. This unit can control up to two external boxes such as the XM Radio receiver and an optional CD Changer.
The Faceplate is a nice feature that also has an optional beep reminder when you leave the car (this can be turned on/off in the setup menu). The feel is solid and comes with a hard carrying case. The volume buttons can be clicked in or out when not in use. The display has several animated graphics such as an Eagle, Pioneer race car on racetrack, and some animated analog and digital analyzers. The only thing I don't like about the faceplate is it's somewhat of a hassle to snap into place due to the flipdown gears and pivot. I thought this would get better as I used it, but is still somewhat of a pain.
Overall I recommend this unit! :-)
