Pioneer DV-383s plays PAL and DIVX as advertised.
Pros
Low price ($100) for a solid unit. Plays PAL and DIVX. Excellent picture quality.
Cons
Nothing significant noted.
Recommended it?
Yes
I have owned this player for one month and played 25 dvds with it. I purchased it to replace a Philips DVP-642 that died. I am very happy with the purchase because the DV-383s plays PAL and DIVX and the picture is much better than the DVP-642. The DV-383s also plays dvds that I burned without problems. The Pioneer DV-383s is better built than the Philips DVP-642 and has a sturdy disk tray unlike the Philips player. This seems to be a great unit for anyone who wants to play PAL dvds in the States or for playing DIVX movies.
NOTE: There are three settings for the tv system: auto (factory setting), PAL and NTSC. On the auto setting, my PAL dvd flickered, but when I switched the system setting to NTSC, PAL dvds worked fine. Of course, I am in the States so my TV is an NTSC TV.
I would highly recommend this player. I cannot comment on the longevity of this product because I have only owned it a month. My previous player lasted only one year. I hope I get more service from this Pioneer because it is great!
