The DV-656A is an excellent low-cost DVD player

Cons
Remote could be a little better
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you want a low-cost player that outputs 480p and plays all types of DVD and VCD discs; then this is the one to get.
My first DVD player was a Sony S530D. I soon noticed that it didn't play every disc that I put in it; I would get a
"no disc" message when I put in Video CD discs almost every
time. So I recently bought a Pioneer DV-656A DVD player. I read up on the specs and features and I looked at the reviews and it sounded good - especially the part about people being able to play anything that they put in it.
So I hunted for the lowest price and I bought it from
ShopSunshine.com for $169.99 + shipping; about $189 total.
The player is about as wide as the Sony and about as deep,
but it's about 1/4 less height. It was easy to set up; just plug in the power cord and the video and audio cables; no problem.I then did what I had been wanting to do for months; play my anime VCD's. They all played just fine; good quality picture and no drop-outs. The only complaint that I have about it is that the remote for the DVD player can't be used to control the volume on the TV (it did on the Sony), so I have to press play on the DVD remote and then switch to the TV remote to adjust the volume.
The main point that I want to make is that the unit is cheap; it plays all types of DVD's & VCD's (limited to Region 1); it's easy to set-up and use, and it outputs 480p for when I get a better TV (next year).
