Best thing to buy for your car!

Pros Tons of variety, tuner box can be hidden under carpet, CD Quality sound.
Cons XM tech support told me GEX-P900XM has a memory chip glitch. Not the portable version.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Don't want to alter your OEM vehicle? Stick to CD. Will hardware prices drop? Yes..I've seen it already. XM doesn't work well with tall buildings or bridges. Plenty of variety.
Regarding the XM Radio service using the GEX-P900XM that I've had for six months, I would have to slightly disagree with Dperlman's review. They bought this tuner box that hooks up to an XM Head unit with a direct plugin IP-Bus cable, but chose to use FM frequency instead!!! Why go through all that effort if your just going to use FM? It would be compared to renting digital TV from your cable company but watching it on a black and white monitor. Why?

Don't blame the tuner, instead look at the choice of setup. Dperlman probably chose this route because he didn't want to alter the stock appearance of a somewhat new car that is probably on lease. So if you have a leased car, installing an XM-Ready head unit is probably not for you. I have the Pioneer XM radio DEH-P7300 unit and I have great quality sound from this unit that transmits crystal clear music. The only time you will receive a signal disruption is if you are driving parallel to a Semi-truck trailer rig or if you are parked or under a bridge for more than 4 seconds. The unit buffers up to 4 seconds of music for brief interruptions.

I ran into one flaw last week with this tuner box. The radio began scanning through all the stations with the "LOADING" message. It would continue scrolling until it reached the preview station. XM technical support told me that this particular unit has a memory chip flaw in which by changing between music types such as XM/CD/FM caused a memory chip to fill up and lock out the tuner. It took them 2 days to reflash my account and send reprogramming signals to my car. At 33? a day, they weren't in too big of a hurry to get the issue resolved.

Some stations do have commercials but they are brief and there are no annoying car or furniture reps screaming at you. Most commercials go something like this "Try the new Mach 3 razor..its close, its comfortable. Try it today." Boom...your done. Then the music or whatever starts up again. Yes, there are DJ's (I get asked this alot). It's not like piped in grocery store music. There are a few funny DJ personalities on the air. My favorites are Girl 2.0, Maxwell, etc. Credit cards are billed Quarterly.

DJ's always fulfill requests and the toll-free lines are rarely busy. If you fill out a questionnaire on the website, they make changes. I asked for some new channels in a survey and so they are changing the lineup on August 26th!!

My favorite channels are:
70's Decade
80's Decade
90's Decade
Comedy
BPM (dance)
