Solid Quality, Solid Price

Pros Great sound and picture with a low price tag
Cons Main unit is huge
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great system! If you care about looks more than quality, buy a Bose. If you want quality for a low price, buy this system!
I had been researching HTIB systems for about 8 months. I did not have the cash for a high end component system, but was not willing to lower my quality standards to by one of those tiny plastic systems that look (and sound) like they were made by Fisher-Price. After comparing a lot of different brands I settled on the Pioneer HTD-510DV and I am extremely pleased with my choice! I got it new on eBay for $300 +s/h, but I got a great deal. I think they are going for about $500 retail right now.

The 5 DVD/CD/CDR changer is solid and smooth. It offers a very quick and silent transition between disks. The speakers are all made of wood; none of that thin plastic sound. The front stereo speakers as well as the center channel are larger speakers than the sats. The left and right speakers get 100 x 2 watts to increase the power and quality of sound when listening to stereo sources like CDs. This is a big plus over other similar products out there. Most other HTIB systems sound their best only when playing a DVD.

The speakers never failed while watching "The Matrix" or "Saving Private Ryan" even at high volume levels. With Dolby Digital and DTS decoding the surround field is brilliant. Thanks to the oversized center channel speaker, dialogue is always clear even during action sequences. For a ported cabinet design, the subwoofer bellows out well defined bass without a lot of reverberance.

This system features some handy surround effects that can help enhance your sound experience including 2 virtual surround effects that convert stereo sources to surround-like sound. This coupled with the ability to enter speaker distances allows you to custom design the sound to fit your environment.

Operation is relatively simple. All the advanced features are only accessible from the remote so don't lose it! Some less technologically inclined people may find the instruction manual a little difficult to understand at times, but most will not have any difficulty.

The picture quality is outstanding. Great color separation and clarity. I have yet to find a disk that will not play. I've played rented discs with visible scratches without one hiccup.

Without a doubt, this is the best system you can buy for under $700. I recommend the HTD-510DV to anyone who cannot afford a high-end component system, but still wants to experience exhilerating home theater. You will not be disappointed!
