Great sound & quality for low price.
Pros
Great sound quality at low price, Slim design, DVD player is progressive scan.
Cons
Does not offer video switching. Receiver remote buttons are small.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this system. Prices have fallen far from it's $999 list price and it can be purchased for around $599. You won't find much better for less money.
I bought this system for my bedroom and after two months of using it I must say I am quite pleased. I have tested the systems sound quality using a wide range of TV stations, concert and action DVD's.
Here is an outline of the systems features:
Receiver
Very Slim Design
Supports Dolby 5.1
Has 3 Digital Audio Inputs (2 in rear, 1 in front)
Has internal cooling fan
Preset audio settings
AM/FM Stereo Receiver
Has remote (buttons are small, does not light up)
DVD Player
Very Slim Design
Progressive Scan
Has Component & S-Video Out
Has Digital Audio & Stereo Out
Has Good Size Remote that is easy to use (does not light up)
Speakers
Good size, not typical little cubes
Good appearance and weight
Can't remove speaker grills
Powered Subwoofer
One reason I would recommend this system is for the fact that the receiver and DVD player are seperate units. Some manufacturers are combining the receiver and DVD player in one unit which is nice for space saving, but if one breaks, you lose both.
Another reason I would recommend this system over others in the same price range is for the speakers. They felt a little heavier than those on other systems. Chances are that the heavier the speaker, the more watts they will handle.
Need another reason? Well get this. The DVD player is progressive scan! For those using digital TV's, look no further and for those planning on buying a digital TV, theres no need to upgrade later.
Overall performance
Sound is always clear and never distorted even at higher volumes. The powered subwoofer does a nice job of providing enough thump to satisfy most movie watchers. I have mine set at a loud volume and I have not heard it rattle, distort or clip yet.
The DVD player has not skipped once and the picture quality is very nice for a unit at this price. The receiver tends to get hot but it has a built in fan to help cool it down and it does not interfere with the sound when it's running. There are separate remotes for the DVD player and receiver. The receiver does not let you adjust treble or bass independently and although it would be nice to have adjustments for those Dolby 5.1 coded movies don't let you adjust it anyway. The receiver and DVD player are very easy to use and only take minutes to set up.
Look closely at these all in one box systems before you buy. Remember, you get what you pay for. Make sure that you understand and will be satisfied with the features offered. Feel and test the speakers before you buy to see if they are built well and will stand the test of time.
I think this system will please most DVD watchers and for the price it's a great buy.
