The Bottom Line:
Definitely worth the money since it delivers more than it promises.
Okay, I'm a mini-system junkie. While I must admit the main reason I went with a wall-mountable system was for the space savings (and the artistic look), I was quite surprised by the sound quality. I think the sub helps out a lot, but comparing this one to the Yamaha TSX-15, the Pioneer beat it hands down.
The Yamaha looks nice, but listen to it before you buy it. I found it to have a "dead" sound to it, very hollow and poor. I was really disappointed, but thankful that I got to listen to it in the store before I bought it. Apparently Sony has a similar system to the Pioneer and the Yamaha, but I haven't been able to find anyone who carries it, and besides, I'm sure the price would have turned me away.
Keeping in mind that this is a mini/micro system, the sound quality will never match that of a full component home theater system. But for it's size, it does produce a nice sound with no distortion! Overall I am pleased with this system, but I wouldn't recommend it for large open rooms. I lucked out because I have really good acoustics in my home, so this system does more than its share of pumping out the tunes, and I couldn't be happier.
