Better than most Mega-Changers, but still has some flaws

Pros Good price, good quality, 2 line display
Cons No keyboard input, tightly spaced remote buttons
Recommended it? Yes
The Pioneer PD-F1007 was my second "Mega-Changer". I used to own one of the first 200 disc changers put out by Kenwood, but I sold it so I could get this changer. I haven't been disappointed.
For starters, the player seems well constructed. I have moved at least 4 times and the player has yet to see a single scratch.
The buttons on the unit are well thought out. I especially like the 2 separate buttons for accessing the single play disc. The buttons are labeled "access" and "play". With these buttons, it takes 2 button presses to play a just-purchased cd. I have used other players where you have to search for an open slot, remember what slot you put it in, and then play the disc. This "+1" slot is also especially useful when a friend brings over a cd they want you to hear.

Why you should buy this changer:
Audio playback is good. Some die hard audiophiles will whine that the sound quality of a changer can never be as good as a single play unit. That may be true, but I can hardly tell the difference between the sound coming out of this changer vs. my friend's $600 single play unit.

One especially nice feature that isn't usually mentioned is the ability for the player to remember your carefully entered titles, long after you have pulled the plug from the wall. I have seen some mega-changers that forget the data you have entered in as little as a day after you unplug it from the wall. This is major headache if you are moving and can't get the player plugged back in right away. However, I have had this player unplugged for over two weeks and it still remembered my titles!

Dual line information display - you can see track information and your titles/CD-TEXT info at the same time. Trust me, when you have the unit on random you will want to know what song/artist is currently playing. With most other mega-changers you either get track info, or title info, not both. On Pioneer's cheaper 300 disc changers there is only 1 line of display. Watch out for that.

Notice that I mentioned CD-TEXT in the last paragraph. CD-TEXT is great. Not many record labels actually put this info on their discs (mostly Sony based labels), but if you have a CD-TEXT capable burner like I do, you can make your own compilations and have the titles burned right along side the audio on the disc.

It plays CDRs. More and more of us are using CD burners these days. Be sure you can play those discs you make.

Cool motorized door. This door is so much better than the "push to open" style doors of some other players. Even though you aren't supposed to transport these units with CDs in them, I do. I had my old Kenwood open up while carrying it across a parking lot and 20 of my CDs spilled onto the pavement. The Pioneer's door stays shut until you tell it to open!

What is wrong with this changer:
No keyboard input. It is a bit of a pain to enter title information without a keyboard. I found that using the jog dial on the unit, rather than the remote, works the best.

It doesn't hold 400 discs like some of the new Sony models.
