The Bottom Line:
If it keeps working, it is a very good unit. My experience may be unusual, but I suggest checking around to see how well others have lasted.
Installation was not difficult, but learning how to use the features took some time. The letters on the main unit and the remote are very small and rather hard to read. Once the CDs were installed and some of the control techniques mastered, it was an extremely convenient way to play CDs, especially when a long series was wanted for a party.
Although I did not use it very frequently, the laser inside the unit burned out after about 18 months of use. The Pioneer Service telephone line was frustrating to use and eventually led to a local repair facility in a major retail chain store which would only repair this item if purchased there and within the one year warranty period. Later, a local independent repair shop told me that the laser disk reader was bad and would cost almost as much as a new unit to replace.
