Excellent CD recorder

Pros You can set your own sound level, (fader)
Cons Only one CD tray. Must use separate CD to record CD to CD
Recommended it? Yes
I bought the Pioneer PD-R555RW CD recorder because it has the ability to fade-in and fade-out while recording songs. I had looked at the Dual tray Phillips but apparently it automatically sets the recording level as there are no controls to change it.

The Pioneer has a button on the remote that will fade-in to a recording within 5 seconds bringing the recording level up to the current settings on the input control. If you want a longer fade in you can set the input knob lower than the recording level you want and hit the fade-in button. After 5 seconds have passed you can continue the fade in by increasing the input control until the meters show it is in the range you want. The meters will also show you if you are getting into the danger range where the sound may clip because of overload. Another great feature is it will automatically go into a fade within the last 4 seconds of recording time on the disk. Naturally you can watch the remaining time and start your own fade-out. If you want a slower fade out than 5 seconds you can just use the knob to lower the recording level.

I tried making a recording using my own fade in starting the knob at zero and slowly turning it up. Unfortunately the machine interpreted the several seconds of no input as a separate track when I finally raised the level high enough it started a new track. This didn't happen to me when I did a manual fade-out. I was able to avoid this by using the above mentioned method of starting with the fade-in button and continuing to raise the input. The machine also has other nice features like optical inputs and digital sync recording. The analog recordings I have made of some of my favorite cassettes came out excellent. An excellent recorder for the price.
