Extremely wonderful when you get it on sale

Pros Got it on sale. Six years later still works great!!
Cons Lasted Nine years before breaking, not great but not bad.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  We are still very pleased with this purchase and it has been six years now and still no problems. Great return on investment.
Update: It is now October 19, 2010.
Additional Pro is the price of the blank Audio CD-R's is lower now & even better if you watch for sales.

2009 started having quirks, then major problems. Broken now. Still haven't gotten it fixed. The Pioneer PD-R555RW CD Recorder worked well for 9 years, so... still a reasonable amount of time, But, still have my father's reel to reel player works & it's 35 years old.

Update: It is now September 14, 2006. We have not had any problems with this equipment to date. The Pioneer PD-R555RW CD Recorder is an excellent value and lasts quite well. The husband is still thrilled with this gift and I expect he will continue to be pleased with it. When it has it's first problem I will add to this epinion so that you will know how well or poorly it does in the future. So far it is Great! The price for the blank disks has come down since we first bought the Pioneer CD Recorder and we often find the blank media on sale. The most recent sale that I noticed was about six months ago at CVS -- they were buy one stack of 50 for $14.99 and get one stack of 50 free. Keep an eye on the sales pages for good deals to make this product an even better value.

This is my husband's idea of the perfect gift. He has been recording his favorite songs off all our albums, CD's, 45's and tapes. Now he only has to listen to the songs he likes on his CD's. No more having to listen to stupid song number four to get to the enjoy the rest of the songs. No more having to reach over and fumble for the buttons while you drive to skip to a song you like.

This also guarantees the originals stay in the house and do not go out in his vehicle to become ruined by the heat. It is a triple blessing, now I don't have to wait until he gets back home to hear the songs we both like because he made me CD's of my favorite songs, too

The CD-R is easy to work, records very crisp, clear audio. Our old records sound so good on CD. It is great for maintaining our old vinyl albums. They get copied to CD and then we don't have to worry about them getting damaged accidentally.

The things to be careful about are: 1) Make sure you buy the Audio CD-R's & Audio CD-RW's, also called Home Use CD-R's; 2) Make sure you hook it up correctly. If you remember these two very important things then you should have no trouble.

Watch the sales pages carefully, we bought ours from Best Buy and then went back and got our price guarantee plus 10% of the difference between their sales price and Circuit City's better sale price.
