GREAT!

Pros Lightweight (2.5 lbs. without the battery), sturdy, easy of use and storage - all around bad-assness of product
Cons Pricey (but worth it for those who travel alot) - not enough time in your life to enjoy it!
Recommended it? No
First off, I looove DVDs. The sound and picture quality of a movie played on a DVD is OUTSTANDING. I always figured that the VCR was fine - no need to go for anything better. BUT, about 2 years ago I threw down the cash for a discontinued DVD player on one of those online auctions. I also bought a real LOW end surround sound system at the same time. I figured if I was gonna do it, I'd do it somewhat right. Anyways, those are the BEST purchases I've ever made! I am now determined to preach the gospel of the benefits of the DVD! I bought my parents one for Xmas and they were blown away by the quality and sound. So...I'm a fanatic. Well, last summer on a trip to Hawaii I noticed that the people one row ahead of us on the plane were watching "There's Something About Mary" on a portable DVD player. I thought it was awesome. But...they ARE very pricey. So, for about 9 months I've been thinking about buying one...I've looked and looked all over and the price ranges anywhere from $600-$1500 for all different types. Really pricey when compared to the non-portable ones at Costco for $200. BUT, if you are still interested in a portable one - then buy one! Now! ESPECIALLY if you travel. It's the best! I take the damn thing everywhere - I've even snuck away at lunch and watched it in my car. I take it on roadtrips to entertain the passengers, on planes - and when I reach the hotel, there's nothing better than popping in one of my own movies right then and there and not have to pay the $9 for hotel movie. Here's some advice: I bought this exact brand ONLINE (don't buy it at a store because they are DAMN pricey there)...like I said, I was able to find this model online for 41% off...having said that, it still was $900....BUT, compare that to the price you would pay at a Circuit City for the lesser Panasonic model (maybe $100 more). I bought it at www.supremevideo.com - REALLY cheap (relatively speaking). It's easy to use, sturdy and high quality. It comes with one battery that lasts for about 3 hours. You can buy other batteries but they are about $150...VERY pricey in my opinion..but a 2nd battery will do wonders. The sound is really good through a nice pair of headphones (not too great through the speakers, though...but waddya expect?)...if you want to use it as your primary DVD player at home, it sounds GREAT - east to hook to the TV and sound system - sounds just as good as my regular DVD unit. You can also use a car-lighter adapter to plug it into the car so as not to wear down the battery. Lots of features, and supports DTS sound...I don't have a DTS receiver, so I can't tell you what it sounds like, but I hear that DTS is OUTSTANDING. That's about it. It's a novelty toy, indeed - but watching a movie poolside is the best. Heh. Good luck!
