THE COOLEST GADGET

Pros Portability & Looks
Cons Slow battery recharge times
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Treat yourself to this unit and a pair of Sennheiser HD 25 SP's. This purchase will not sit in your closet collecting dust!
Preparing for an upcoming trip, I decided to check the market to see what the portable dvd players were selling for. Finding the price to be near the five-bill mark, and thus fitting within the budgey, I decided to bid on one on eBay. I got mine for $540, and that included a very nice camera case the previous owner was using to carry it about.
As for my impression of the unit . . . it is better than advertised. I read the epinions prior to purchase and no one mentioned that the exterior of the case has that cool titanium look, and it is clearly built very solidly. It is only the interior that is black, and to be honest, the picture shows up much better against a black background than with a silver tone interior that the Pioneer PDV-LC20 and the current Sony model have. So, what I am saying is that the PDV-LC10 has the high-end titanium look, but the better view because it doesn't carry the titanium over to the frame of the screen.
The screen is the most disappointing feature. Pioneer's models are better than all other portable dvd players on the market, but it doesn't compare to a nice picture tube television. I can't complain to much, though, because, like I said, until a new technology comes along, this picture is the best there is. Also, the seven inch screen is MANDATORY! Do not, under any circumstances, buy any unit with a five inch screen. Save your money and buy a useful size picture.
Audio output through the headphones is excellent. The speakers on the unit are not very good, but then again, don't you always want to use headphones with this unit?
The bottom line is buy it. It's not a useless gadget. I use this much more than my portable cd player, and much, much more than my digital camera and digital camcorder.
