Recommended it?
Yes
Like many fellow movie goers, I like watching movies that can mentally affect you, thus also physically. There has been nothing like watching movies in there DVD splendor or hearing satisfying superb sound. Pioneer has managed to incorporate all the characteristics of their award-winning DVD players into a portable wonder. It is light and compact enough to take on the road for incredible portable DVD player action without the hassle of lugging a television or bulky DVD player and power supply.
It comes with its own power AC adapter and the option to use batteries. I prefer using the adapter because the batteries are drained in a matter of a few hours. The battery life is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3hrs give or take a few minutes. I don't consider this to be a sufficient amount of time, you might get the chance to watch about 2 1hr&1/2 movies before low battery warning alarms. The bright robust high clarity low glare/reflection screen uses the majority of power. However, what you get in return for power is breathtakingly stunning images with outstandingly precise high resolution. The screen consists of a TTFT Active Matrix 16:9 LCD enhanced with Anti Reflection and Glare Coatings, significantly reducing aggravating sunlight glare and environmental reflections, improving viewing pleasure in any lighting condition 100%.
The sound is 3D stereo enhanced which gives the audio a decent realistic feel but not quite up to par with surround sound home theaters total environmental submersion. Don't get me wrong the audio is still very impressive in every aspect just not as detailed. For example when the action gets heavy, multiple explosions are erupting, and the soundtrack is pumping the dialogue tends to get lost in the action. That's when the Dolby Digital 5.1 comes to the rescue, shedding new light on actors/actresses dialogue with one undistorted center channel. Pioneer's famous audio quality still abounds even through two speakers.
Another nice feature that I forgot to mention is the quick charge feature that allows the user to charge the batteries to full capacity in about half the time compared to normal charge. This is a very beneficial feature if you're constantly on the run with little or no time to spare sitting on your hands. Normal charge time is an average of 2.5hrs under normal conditions. So, with quick charge battery regeneration takes about 1.25hrs. Unit also comes standard with a full function remote that's ergonomical and easy to understand. Its multidirectional also, meaning that its infrared transmitter doesn't have to be aimed directly at the unit to function properly.
I recommend the Pioneer PDV-LC20 to anyone who wants superior portable DVD player action and can afford to shell out 1500 smackeroos. Its definitely one of the top dogs on the market, small size with a lot of Pioneer's legendary bite.
