Nice functions, but buggy software and slow startup

Pros <p>SD function, screen resolution, sound quality</p>
Cons <p>slow, buggy software (see above)</p>
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:

Make you try if before buy it and make sure you can live with its defects...

Have had it for two weeks now, and of course there are some positive points the navigation system:
- SD card function is very nice. You can put new MP3 files and delete old one without having to write a new CD.
- Good sound quality
- Easy user interface via touch screen
- Good screen resolution

BUT, there are quite a lot of VERY negative points. This device also has some major bugs.
- EXTREMELY long start-up time when starting the car - up to more than 2 minutes. --> VERY annoying, because you have to wait 2 minutes before you can start entering your navgation address and thus start driving.
- Phone calls are muted when you get traffic information, and when traffic info is over, the mute function does not switch off and cannot be switched off again. Only way to solve problem is to hang up and dial the other person again.--> clearly a bug in the software and also VERY annoying
- When listening to radio or when playing a DVD, navigation instructions always sound at the same volume level regardless of the volume level that you are listening the radio of DVD at. (= the way it should be). HOWEVER, When listening to MP3 on USB of SD-card - which is the case for me most of the time, the volume of the navigation instructions is tied the volume level you are listening your MP3's at. Meaning that when you listen your music at low volumes levels, the navigation instructions sound at the same low volume level, (making it hard to distinguish the navigation instructions from the music and results in missing some instructions). Setting the navigations instruction to a higher volume in the navigation part doesn't solve the problem because if you then listen to MP3's at a higher volume level later on, the navigation instructions sound way too loud. --> also very annoying
- Then there is this annyoing "beep" sound when you touch the screen of go to the next or previous song or when you change the volume via your steering wheel control buttons. The beep can only be switched of in the navigation part, but it cannot be swithced of the rest of the functinalities (radio, MP3, DVD, phone, ...) Moreover, the "beep" sound volume is tied to the music volume when listening MP3's via SD or USB. So if you listen to music at higher volume levels, beeps will sound very loud. Not to mention that there are 62 volume step levels and going from a background music volumeI don't mind a little soft beep, but this really drives you crazy after a while.
- Some text and symbols in the navigation part are way too small. For example time and distance to destination can hardly be read.
- And last but not least, there is the slow response time of the device when being in the navigation mode or when playing a movie (especially divx movies). It can take up to 15 seconds before the device reacts --> Dangerous when driving and you want to change radiostation or song. Your attenion is drawn away from traffic for 15 to 20 seconds then.

Taking above points into account, I would really not recommend this Pioneer navigation system. I hope pioneer will fix all these problems in one of their next firmware upgrades. Until then --> DON oT BUY THIS NAVIGATION SYSTEM!!!! There are better navigations systems available on the market (e.g. Kenwood, clarion, Eclipse, Alpine, ...)
