OK, for the money

Pros Simple design, removable faceplate, good amp and EQ
Cons Display not visible when cold, skips in cold weather, Error 17, too bright at night.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Not bad if you don't live in a very cold climate, and if it doesn't mount right up in your face on your car's dashboard because the display doesn't dim.
Why I purchased it;

1) It plays MP3/WMA files.

2) I've had good experience with Pioneer before.

3) It matches the black dashboard of my VW Jetta, unlike some of the bright silver decks on the market (which I'm not against, except on the Jetta because it's right in your face at the top of the dash).

4) Good amplifier and graphic EQ settings to make even the old and tired stock speakers in my VW sound halfway decent.

What I don't like

1) On extremely cold Canadian nights, it either refuses to read the disk, or it reads the disk with what sounds like a scratched record as the track is playing, or it simply skips altogether. This will continue until the unit has warmed up which could take about 10 minutes. Hope you like your radio while this happens.

2) As is common with LCD displays, it is slow to change in extreme cold. Not much to worry about really, but annoying if you start to get ahead of the display on the radio dial or track selection.

3) The display has no dimming feature, and it's pretty bright when driving along in the dead of night on a dark country road.

4) The buttons are small and thus difficult to operate with winter gloves on.

5)The buttons themselves light up, but the text above them doesn't so at night you need to remember what each button does. OK once you've owned it and had a chance to play around with it a bit, but initially confusing.

6)When the SRC button is depressed for CD, it will take a few seconds to read the disc and then a message appears with "Error 17". The unit needs to be switched off or to radio and then back to CD to clear the error. Very strange.

Overall, considering the price and when it is playing, it's good. If you can spend a little more however, I'd shop around some.
