Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Don't expect a multimedia entertainment center, but this deck can do all the basics, then some.
This deck features CD/FM/AM capablities, one set of 2.2v preouts, detachable face, and blue/green back lighting.
When it comes down to it, this deck is just the bread and butter of what someone could really needs it a deck. It's a great deck to start building a system around.
The set of preouts allow a connection to an external amp. If you need to, you can buy a Y RCA Phono splitter and run two compatiable amps (2 channel) with minor signal loss on good cables. It also has a 3 way loudness control that doesn't butcher the sound, a handful of presets for it's 3 band EQ, which also can be customized to you liking. (Bass, Mid, Treb -6 to 6)The deck's RMS rating is 22 watts, which is enough to drive almost any in car speaker decently, but if you want it loud and in your face, you better get some nice 6.5's or 6x9's and an external amp.
In town, the tuner picks up stations I can't even get on my own home reciever. It also will not skip under all but the most extreme vibrations. The detachable face allows an extra sense of security, except most people just throw the faceplate in the glovebox, which... is useless.
For around a $140 bucks this deck is a great addition, or a good way to start building a system.
