DVD is all you need

Pros Great price, excellent quality, records flawlessly, improves video quality of vhs
Cons difficult to set up,confusing at first
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  the bottom line is do not hesitate with this model. If you have been thinking about getting a dvd recorder, this is the model to go with.
Over the past few years, I have come to a conclusion that many people are still in denial about; the VHS format is dead. It's been dying a surprisingly fasy death since about 1999 when dvd players really started to become popular. It was only natural that consumers would eventually want to record in this new format as well. Unlike vhs, dvd's don't deteriorate over time and are much easier to store.

Although the technology of recording dvd's in your own has been available for a couple of years the price has not really fallen. Atleast with brands other than Pioneer. I picked this model up at Best Buy for $429.99 and it is worth every penny. It can only record on blank dvd-r discs and not dvd+r, but this is not really a problem because about 90 percent of all dvd players will not read dvd+r.

With this machine you can record anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours, but the machine always seems to record 3 to 10 minutes longer than what you actaully set it to. I recommend recording between 1 1/2 hours to 4 hours as the absolute maximum time. anything beyond this looks really blocky and seems to move in almost slow motion. Also, you can edit your dvd's and remove unwanted parts from it.

However, there are some bad parts with this dvd player as well. Not with how the machine works exactly, but how it has to be set up to use cable/satelite,vcr and other things
with it.It took me hours to set this all up.Basically, you connect the cable to the vcr,and send a cable from the vcr output to connect with one of the dvd players many input....or something like that.I can't remember exactly but I hope I never have to go through that again. The instructions offered little to no help and alot of it was guess and check.

The main reason I bought this machine was to transfer home videos/movies over from vhs to dvd and so far I have not been disappointed. The quality has consistently been as good and usually even better than it was on vhs. However, use high quality cables for the hook up between the vcr and dvd recorder. I use special filtering cables that filter and digitally enhance the image. They can be purchased from best buy and other places from $40 to $200.
It is worth the money.Basically, you get what you pay for.

Overall, this is a very good buy. I recommend this over other brands because of it's great price and high quality.
You will not be disappointed.
