Good Product muffed by the TV Guide feature
Pros
Can watch a recorded program while it records something else
Cons
THE TV GUIDE FEATURE
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
All this said its still a heck of a lot better than a VCR or DVD recorder, and my purchasing experience with One Call was excellent.
When first plugged in and for the 1st week the device worked as billed...
Then things started going awry. More on that below.
What I really like about this DVR is that I can watch something I recorded to the hard drive while it's recording something else. Love, love this feature. Love that I no longer have to be concerned about how many or how much I'm recording. I've been recording on the 2nd to lowest quality and I can not detect any difference from a VCR Tape. I admit I am not very picky.
What annoys the pea diddle out of me is the TV Guide feature.
When I first plugged in the DVR the TV guide info came up as expected after 24 hours, to record something from the TV guide is effortless, but not dependable. Also the navigation of the TV guide is slow and clunky.
The undependable part.... after no hitches the first week and my confidence was up. The TV guide decided that 2 of the 1 hour programs I had selected to recorded were 1/2 hour programs. So there you are with half a show.
Also I am in the habit of programming all my TV on Sunday for the upcoming week. While most of the programs I selected to record recorded just fine a few just disappeared off the radar??? The TV guide is updated (continuously it seems) when the DVR is turned off. So I wonder if the update causes some of the selected programs to be removed.
Then the TV guide just disappeared about a week ago, the message in its place is that it will be back in 24 hours after it has updated the guide due to my changes.?? I made no changes, but we did have some power surges in the area with thunderstorms. Is it confused jeez this week is the longest 24 hours I've spent. The good news is that items set to record still did and you can record manually. However the manual programming is hidden and not documented in the user manual. I had stumbled across it a few days before the TV guide disappeared.
