Great recorder - reasonable price

The Bottom Line:
Great product, quite easy to use (once you get thru the comprehensive manual. Many useful features, particularly the 30 second skip key to jump over commercials.
You get what you pay for ... a cliche I know, but in the world of DVD recorders, it's very true.
This machine does almost everything you can think of:
1) Records TV programs onto it's hard drive (for future editing) or directly onto a DVD disks.
2) Plays picture files from a USB port
3) Stores and plays music from CD's in it's jukebox
4) Copies VHS tapes to hard drive or DVD disks
It does all this and more, quietly, efficiently, and with great picture quality.
After extensive research reading reviews, I bought this unit for the following reasons. First, I have an enormous collection of VHS tapes (Red Sox games, Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, etc). By simply plugging the A/V cables into the front of the recorder, I can transfer what I want on DVD (pausing when I wish to skip certain sections of the VHS tape). It works like a charm, and I can do further editing of this "taped" material using the Hard Drive features of the recorder. Most reviews said to avoid the combo models (VHS/DVD both built in), so I did. No problems - the picture quality is excellent (even the very old tapes came out pretty good).
Secondly, other reviews said to avoid the TV Guide feature some units have. This one uses TV-Plus+ instead. I haven't used this feature as of yet, but I'm comfortable with deciding to stay away from the horror stories TV Guide recorder owners tell about.
This unit has several possible ways to record TV programs (Quick-Record, Timer-recording, etc.) Very impressive options and quite easy to use.
In closing, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Apart from the initial fears I had in properly setting up the connections and sorting thru the comprehensive manual, I report I am a very satisfied customer.
