The Bottom Line:
Do not purchase this product at any price under any circumstance.
I purchased my original module in Jan '06 from Circuit City, unfortunately opting out of the extended service plan. At first the module worked well, despite the fact that the Circuit city installers had put the antenna on the inside of the vehicle in order to save time. Save for a few problems with reception, I was satisfied.
Approximately 4 months after purchase, the module mysteriously went completely dead. Circuit City confirmed that all connections leading to the module were good and that the module itself was to blame. I quickly sent the unit back to Pioneer, the manufacturer of the unit, for warranty service.
Approximately 3 weeks later I received a refurbished unit back from warranty (not the original module either mind you). I reconfigured the installation to put the antenna on the exterior of the vehicle to improve reception and reinstalled the module myself (my issues with Circuit City deserve another review). For approximately 5 weeks the refurbished unit worked well until it began to lose signal constantly. Eventually it was unable to receive signal in even the most ideal conditions, prompting me to again send this unit back for warranty service.
My third unit arrived within 3 weeks only to be essentially DOA. The "sound" produced by the unit is so incredibly poor (mostly static), that it's essentially unusable. This unit is once again in service.
