Pros Best stretch mode, great picture, reliability.
Cons A little pricier than most.
Recommended it? Yes

I finally took the plunge into widescreen television after 2 years with a regular 4:3 aspect ratio 45" Mitsubishi non-HD model. I enjoyed the Mits, and it had a great picture for regular cable programming, but I was getting tired of watching DVD's in letterbox mode with such an effectively small... Read full review »

Pros Awesome picture, better than average sound and cool PIP features.
Cons Requires constant maintenance
Recommended it? No

Purchased the TV in Feb 2003 for $1900. The horrid glare/reflections off the gloss screen protector are a major detraction, but in the right room (no windows), this might not be an issue. This set stunned friends and family with it's amazing picture quality and I felt like "the man". The wife and... Read full review »

I have yet to have any issues with my Pioneer SD-533HD5. I bought this set because it was highly rated for its time. The picture quality for SD and HD material is superb. I bought this TV in February 2002 and it's still performing like a champ. I just had it professionally calibrated and it now... Read full review »

Pros Good product initially
Cons Won't last beyond 3-4 years.

TV purchased Nov 2001 and have had problems. Mainly, a fuse (4A 125V) continually blows. Noticed when the power would come on briefly and then shut off. I have since learned how to replace the fuse (now under 10 minutes start to finish). I called Pioneer and they said there are no documented cases... Read full review »

Pros Worked great for a while.
Cons A waste of money on my part!
Recommended it? No

I required $400.00 worth of repairs due to cold solder joints and faulty ic chips after 30 months of use. This is not the first one the tech had to fix because of this and Pioneer doesn't stand behind their product. There doesn't seem to be any good opinions about their brand on the internet... When I purchased My Pioneer SD-533HD5 53 in. HDTV I was excited about the picture quality, especially on my DVDs.
That was in 2003. Now I could not be more frustrated! This TV has been repaired FOUR times in six months by a Pioneer certified technician. The TV just shuts itself off as soon as... Read full review »

I purchased the above rear projection television from Best
Buy in November, 2001 (3 1/2 years ago). I did not purchase
the extended warranty because I figured paying $2,999.00 for a television would in itself guarantee that I had purchased a reliable product. WRONG!!! I am now faced with... Read full review »

I was in the market for almost 9 months looking for an RPTV that would satisfy my caviar taste and beer budget, and figured that I would end up with a Hitachi, but always really wanted a Pioneer. Pioneers always had a reputation in the business of being high-quality reliable sets that looked great... Read full review »

Purchased this TV in Fall, 2001. In fall of 2003,TV loss picture. If you're looking for an unbelievable rear projection HDTV- let me tell to look no further. I previously had a Hitachi that died after only 7 months service. I then found that the larger Wal-Mart stores have this model in stock. If you can't find it in a store near you, it's available at... Read full review »
