This Receiver Will Rock Your Socks OFF!

Pros Great sound, even w/ small sat speakers. On-screen display, easy to use remote.
Cons None Found!
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone looking to get into surround sound for movies and gaming. This receiver offers great sound for a good price.
This receiver came packaged with the usual styrofoam end caps, plastic bag, user manual and remote control that even came with new batteries. After reading through the manual two times, I felt I was ready to hook my new toy up. I hooked up my Xbox 360, DVD, VCR, Media Center PC and TV to this receiver in less than (2) two hours! (this was my 1st time hooking up a receiver) The wieght/feel of this receiver along with the solid feel of the connectors on the back, screams quality. This receiver has On-screen display w/ (MCACC) Auto Multi-Channel Accustic Calibration for setting and calibrating the speakers to your room. I found this feature good for my set up.

The Pioneer receiver has so many options when it comes to sound, there's a Dialog mode that enhances the dialog for movies that have a lot of soft talking. It also has a Midnight mode that I have found very family friendly, it allows you to hear effective surround sound at low volume levels (great for when the wife is trying to sleep). There's also a Phonesur mode that creates a overall surround effect when using headphones. I have found the Display Dimmer a nice feature that allows you to dim or turn off the receiver lights completely. The remote is easy to use that has a LCD screen so you know which device you are controlling, and there's also a Sleep Timer.

I have been using this receiver with (40w) 5.1 sat speakers for over a year now and have had zero problems what so ever. I have this set up in a (10' x 14') room right now and even with the under rated speakers the sound is great. I would recommend hooking up all video connections directly to your TV or Monitor because this receiver does not allow component-video conversion. If you must use this receiver as a video switcher due to input constraints w/ TV or Monitor, all video inputs must be the same as the output.

Pioneer states that this receiver needs 8" of open space on top for proper ventilation, it gets fairly hot under normal use. I've read it has a fan inside for cooling but I have never heard it or opened it up to look inside. Just to be safe, make sure you give this receiver a lot of ventilation room.
