Pros Solid product, lots of features for a good price.
Cons A little patience required to learn features.
Recommended it? Yes

I was in the market for a surround system, looking first only at a speaker system (sub with satellites). I quickly discovered that for not much more money, I could get a complete multi-media package including receiver, sub and five speakers.

The VSX-D409 was bundled together with a self... Read full review »

Pros GREAT SOUND, features, lots of features
Cons Hard to program remote, no optical output, might be hard for some to hookup.
Recommended it? Yes

This receiver is great. Everyday I discover a new really cool feature. With all the options and features, and all the inputs on the back, this receiver could be a little daunting to the entree level user. The instructions are clear though and should be kept handy for a week or so after installation... Read full review »

Pros Good overall sound for music, DVD's, and TV
Cons Remote is the absolute worst
Recommended it? Yes

I received the Pioneer VSX-D409 and a Pioneer DVD-434 as a Christmas/birthday present from my wife in December of 2000. We had stopped in Best Buy because we got "Customer Appreciation Day" coupons in the mail and wanted to see about using them. I believe the coupon we used for the audio equipment... Pros Supports both Dolby Digital and DTS; includes a plethora of inputs, easy to operate
Cons No S-Video input
Recommended it? Yes

I received this receiver as a Christmas present--and boy was Santa good to me!

I went on a trip for a couple of days, and, being the person I am, I brought the manual along with me for some reading material. So by the time I got home, setup was reletively easy for me. I hooked up my Sony... Read full review »

Good, but better can be bought for very little more.

Pros Inexpensive, good sound, lots of features
Cons D509 is much better and barely more expensive
Recommended it? No

I bought this as part of a $300 bundle with (Pioneer)surround speakers from Costco.

Setup was easy. I used the co-ax digital input to hook up my Pioneer DV-434 DVD player which I bought at the same time.

Setup menus were all logical and easy to use - OSD would have been nice but... Read full review »

Pros power

This receiver is excellant. It has given me more moments of joy listening to it than trying to figure it out. It has been very reliable to me and sounds great! The only bad thing about it is the "no s-video inputs or outputs" Other than that, everything the average paid man would love to buy! It is... Read full review »

Crap. Go elsewhere

Pros Good decoding of Dolby digital; High number of sound modes, OK remote
Cons So many, I don't know where to start
Recommended it? No

I don't know what the rest of the reviewers are thinking. This is a pretty damn-poor amp. I want to catagorize each part separately.

POWER
It is rated at 100W x 5, by this is not a true indication. In fact, it feels more like 60W. When I really crank in for a loud explosion, it draws... Read full review »

Pros Does it ALL at a price you won't believe!
Cons Manual could be easier, but follow along at it works fine.
Recommended it? No

Five years ago I bought a Yamaha surround sound receiver amplifier for $1900. The Pioneer VSX D409 is so much better and it only cost $149.

100 watts per channel! One coaxial DTS digital 5.1 dolby and two optical inputs! Wonderful, remote (could be backlit, but hey, for $149, backlit... Read full review »

Pros Best value for it's price
Cons Little hard to operate
Recommended it? Yes

I brought this receiver as part of an entire home theater system from Costco for just $ 389 plus taxes in December 2000. I am very very pleased with it's performance. The model number of the entire system is HTP-209 and you can find it on the web being sold for almost the same price plus shipping... Read full review »
