Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you are starting out on the surround sound band wagon, you should really consider purchasing this unit.
I bought this receiver about 2 months ago, as of 1-30-02. This unit came with a 5-piece KLH speaker package w/ 120w sub. The only loud speaker seems to be the sub. I haven?t had the chance to connect some large speakers to it. I'm thinking of doing that sometime to test the real loudness of this unit.
As you see in the title, "I'm not sure but..." this refers to something I noticed. When I checked pioneers web site this receiver looks a little bit different than the one I have now. When I looked at the thick Radio Shack book I noticed that an RCA receiver looked EXACTLY the same! This really upset me knowing that I got some receiver with the pioneer logo put on it. It came with a manual and remote with everything similar (receiver looked right in the manual). Anyway "I'm not sure but..." I think I got ripped off. I want to talk to Best buy about false advertising, but I don?t want to get sued or something. I just wanted to point that out so no one gets ripped like I did. Unless they just changed the design lately forget about all I've said.
The thing is that unusually I am pretty satisfied with it, even though my Sony Mini Hi-Fi system tends to get louder. The speakers must be inefficient. I know I sound like I don't know anything, but I actually do. I know about all that wattage and ohms stuff.
So if you want to get this just make sure you get the official model. So I guess I am reviewing this "multi-model." It does sound very good the .02% THD is real. Once you set it on a DSP or DD mode when turned up w/o a sound source you can hear a sound so the THD must jump to at least .8%, I'm not sure I don?t have any equipment to find this out, besides my ears. This 'overload' thing you hear about is an overload in the input, but just turn on the ATT and it will fix it (you can't do this on a digital source, or it has no effect.) The whole time I've had this it has never overloaded which if it does its supposed to shut itself off before damage occurs. The person before probably had a wire touching the back panel which will cause it to shut off (at least the manual says so). The DVD video also runs through it very well, the security signal is not disrupted through the unit, unlike some older models or VCR's. I have a lot more to say, but this should be enough, read "the bottom line".
