4 and half years still going strong
Pros
Plenty of power, DTS, DNR optical and coaxial digital inputs
Cons
Not quite the fullness of sound of a high power unit
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A great all round performer at a good price.
Four years of abuse and the receiver is still going strong, Good sound, easy to set up, plenty of inputs and ahead of its time (at least here in New Zealand). Even though here in NZ I paid $1199 of our dollars the pioneer was still a bargain about a third of the price of a Denon or Marantz receiver of equivalent specs. My receiver is hooked up to our satelite receiver, cd player, Panasonic tv, Mustek DVD player and my wifes little casio organ (amazing how the amplifier can make that tinny thing sound quite good). DVDs sound great on DTS and the midnight function is great for when our little person is in bed at night. I like the extra configuration that you can do with the unit like speaker positioning and volume for each speaker in theatre mode. The only disappointing thing is the stereo sound it just seems a bit thin to me lacking that bit of definitive punch that 100 watts should have, my Dads aging (16 years old) Denon receiver rated at a mere 40 watts delivers clean strong sound, that I would have thought the pioneer should match if not exceed but it doesnt. Apart from that the Pioneer is a great unit that no one, should be put off from buying either new or 2nd hand.
