Terrific Deal

Pros Huge number of inputs and input types, nearly unbeatable price considering its features
Cons Display not very convenient, moderate learning curve for operation by an average user
Recommended it? Yes
When my wife and I were looking to put together our home theater system one of the main components we realized we needed to look for quality with was the receiver. At first we were very discouraged by the prices we saw though, we didn't want to short-change ourselves but at the same time we didn't want to feel like we needed to take out a second mortgage on the house to get something good. That's when we were fortunate enough to run into this little beauty.

One look at the back of this puppy confirms that just about any type of input you could imagine having, this receiver will gladly take it. There are inputs everywhere and it turned out that was a good thing since I've used just about every type of them since buying it as I've added new things. Another plus is the number of modes it has, certainly enough that the average person would be able to hook up everything they have to it with no worry of having to swap things or use an external switch with.

Moving on to the functions I would note that in this area the receiver could have been better. Use of the remote takes some getting used to in some instances and you really need to read up on the manual so you can understand what each mode or setting you can configure will be doing. A related complaint is that sometimes you'll activate an odd mode or setting and because the only display available is on the front of the unit you may have to get up just to see what has been enabled/disabled. Not a killer but can be an annoyance at times and could frustrate some users who don't think to look and believe they're having sound problems.

In the end if you can get over the occasional difficulty of use issues and other nagging problems you can't beat this unit at the price it is available for. It will do the job and more for almost any casual user and it is thankfully easier on the pocketbook than units with comparable features on the market.
