Something New Coming- Do Not Buy the I-Zone Yet

byhwz1 Sep 26, 2000
Pros A great new camera is coming that combines all types of photography into one
Cons Do not buy an I-Zone right now- wait until the new camera is released
Recommended it? Yes
I realize that the I-Zone is the most popular camera in the world, but Polaroid has done something that will make it even more popular. The thing is, you have to wait until later this week to buy it. Stick with me here and I will explain.

The I-Zone has become the world's most popular camera because of the ability to reproduce images in a manner that is similar to what Polaroid has always been famous for- instantaneous photos. However, the photos are smaller and the camera is much cheaper than what those of us who are older remember. Hence, the popularity with children.

But, Polaroid has finally found a way to make a good product even better. Yes, I know, it has been roughly 20 years since Polaroid has put together a great break through product, but they are about to do it for the second time in a few years.

The new Polaroid Camera will combine the attributes of the I-Zone with those of a digital camera. WOW! Think of the advantages of being able to utilize the product like an original Polaroid, or like a digital camera. Do I sound excited? Well, yes I am because I think that not only kids, but also adults will find the new camera to be something new and exciting, as well as useful.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THE I-ZONE:

* The inexpensive cost that allows children to be able to purchase them.
* The small size and the portability
* The flashy colors
* The ability to see, immediately, the picture that you just took
* The sticker function that has helped make the camera such a great product for Polaroid

WHAT THE NEW COMBO CAMERA HAS TO OFFER:

* A digital camera that creates a "two cameras in one" deal
* 18 photo storage ability
* Ready for downloads and email
* Still compact and portable- in other words, still small enough to stick in your pocket
* Software to "manipulate" or change any imperfections
* Relatively inexpensive at $99
* Comes with wrist strap, four AAA batteries, software, and a six shot pack of sticky film
* Everything that the I-Zone has to offer

In my opinion, the Combo camera is a great improvement on the I-Zone in that you can now have the best of both world's. For instance, say you take a great picture digitally and want to print it out right now and stick on your notebook. All you have to do is print it out and it will allow you to stick it anywhere you want. Or, keep the photo in the camera's memory and wait until you get home and then download onto the computer. By using the software you can then correct any imperfections (like that zit) and print the photo out on the printer (more on this in a moment). Finally, say the photo is not what you expected. Simply, erase the photo from the camera's memory and it will be gone without the expense of film or sticky film.

The uses are endless and Polaroid seems to finally have an idea of what the consumer is looking for when it comes to a camera. Thankfully, the company is stepping into the '90's. Ooops, I guess I should say they are making a move into 2001 with a head of steam. Another reason to look at this camera is a new printer product that will be unveiled this week.

Polaroid is unveiling a new portable digital color printer that will work with the new camera. The printer is handheld and produces color images in less than 20 seconds while eliminating the need for a camera to PC connection.

THE REASON FOR THIS EPINION:

Why did I write this epinion? I wrote this epinion because I hope that people will save their money and not buy the I-Zone in the coming weeks. The Combo camera will be the next hot thing for children- and others- and they will need some help in order to afford it. Yes, $99 is an excellent price for a digital camera, but it is also a hefty price tag for many teens.

I will admit that I have never used or even seen a combo camera. However, I do have a trusted business associate who has been to a recent exhibit that Polaroid held. My business associate covers the sector for a Wall Street firm and he is extremely high on the product. Additionally, he seems to feel that Polaroid finally has their head on straight and should start to make products that we, the consumer, will actually begin to purchase again. A final note: My associate claims that the Combo camera takes a good photo. Will you get photographer quality photos? No. Will they look better than what you get from a disposable camera? Yes.

THE RECOMMENDATION:

I understand that Polaroid is putting a lot into this product and expect it to fly off of the shelves. Hence, the reason why I would not buy the I-Zone at this point in time. If your child likes what the I-Zone has to offer, then he/she will love all of the gimics that the Combo camera provides. Therefore, I would suggest waiting before purchasing the I-Zone and instead buying the Combo camera when it is released later this week.
