The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for an affordable, easy to use instant camera, we would recommend the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera.
We have owned a Polaroid Camera for as long as I can remember. My husband loves to hunt and fish and from when he was a child, he always took a picture of his “kill” with a Polaroid Camera and placed it in a photo album. A few years ago his old Polaroid camera died so I went out to purchase him another one. He didn’t want to use my digital camera, he wanted a new Polaroid Camera. I found the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera at Kmart on sale and purchased it for him.
The Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera is an instant camera. You push the button and the picture comes out of the camera. Our new Polaroid camera was sleeker looking then his old camera. I don’t know how long my husband had his old one but I know it must have been around 15 to 20 years. The new Polaroid camera is more rounded and smooth looking. (Instead of boxy like the older models).
The Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera is a focus-free camera. The camera has a built-in flash with auto mode, flash off mode, and red eye reduction. The camera measures 4.7 W x 6.2 D x 3.6 H and weight about a pound. It is a lightweight, easy to use camera. It is so easy to use, even my children can use it.
To use the camera there is a button on the back that you press to open or close the camera. Once this button is pushed the camera opens automatically. To close the camera you must hold the button and gently close the camera.
To load film into the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera is easy. There is a film release button on the front of the camera. Press the button and the film door will open. Insert the film as shown on the pack of film. Close the door and the film counter should go up to 10. When the film counter goes to 0 you will need to remove the empty pack. Press the film release button and pull the tab to remove the film pack.
Speaking of film, this is the only thing I don’t like about the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera and that is you must use Polaroid film. It wouldn’t be so bad if Polaroid film wasn’t so gosh darn expensive.
The Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera comes with a flash. A steady green light will illuminate from the back of the camera when the flash is ready. When you are ready to take a picture, hit the shutter button and the picture will come out the front of the camera. When the picture first comes out you will not see much of anything because it does take some time to develop.
The Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera takes good, sharp pictures. I cannot complain about the quality of the pictures that come out of the camera.
Other features of the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera include a self-timer button and the red-eye reduction button. If you push the red-eye reduction button this helps minimize red-eye in your photo. If you want to use the self timer, set the button and the camera will wait 12 seconds before taking a picture. The camera also comes with a hand strap that you must install.
Personally I like my digital camera for taking most pictures. My digital camera is a lot smaller and easier to take places. But my husband loves his Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera to capture his trophies. I really don’t think we use the Polaroid camera for anything other than his pictures. A few years back I was the chairperson for our PTO’s Santa Secret Shop and I did use the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera to take pictures with Santa.
I purchased the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera at Kmart for $29.99 which I thought was a great price. Unfortunately the price for film knocked me over and I almost put the camera back. The cheapest place I have found the film is at BJ’s in a multipack. It is getting hard to find Polaroid film. I have heard that they stopped making it. I’m not sure what my husband will do if he can’t take instant pictures of his “kills”.
One thing I don’t understand about the Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera is that it has a self timer but it does not have a place to put the camera on a tripod. It tells you to sit it on a flat service if you are using the self timer. That seems a bit odd to me. If you are going to have a self timer, why not put a place on the camera so you can use a tripod.
We have always enjoyed using our Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera but we are concerned about the film and if we will still be able to purchase it in the future. For now, we continue to use our Polaroid One600 Ultra Film Camera during hunting and fishing season to showcase my husband’s trophies.
