Good DVD player but not for the hard of hearing
Pros
Picture quality, durability
Cons
maximum volume is just not very loud
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Good quality and durability for the price
I bought this for my wife for Christmas after being stuck on an airport runway for an hour. The product is very easy to use, with simple controls. Excellent picture quality, though the sound is a bit "tinny." It also has two nice features...two headset jacks (great on an airplane) and a swiveling screen. We've taken this thing in the car, on a plane and on a cruise. You'll need headsets in the car, as you really can't hear anything above the engine noise if you're in the front seat. We ran into a similar problem on the plane...we turned the volume as high as it would go but still had a problem hearing above the plane engine noise. Perhaps I just need better headphones. (This was a regional jet, and we know how noisy they can be.) One good point is that on this flight we were getting bounced all over the sky, and the thing kept playing fine... it never skipped. We remedied the sound problem by turning on the closed captioning. We took our favorite movies on a cruise and plugged it into the cabin tv, and it worked great. Amazingly the adapter plugs actually came with the unit. It also includes a car charger.
The battery definitely holds enough of a charge to get through an entire two hour plus movie, and this came in handy during Hurricane Dennis when our power went out.
As for durability, I defer to my sister in law who recommended this model. She has three small children who are very rough on things and play with this constantly. It works fine after a year of constant use.
All in all, not a bad deal for $175 (Circuit city.)
