My girlfriend went into the hospital for surgery and I thought it would be a great idea if she had a portable dvd player. I purchased a 7" Polaroid and surprised her at the hospital with it. We watched a bit of the movie and then it konked out. 3 hours later her dad surprised her with one too! Except it was the PDV-1002A - no problems with it at all. It makes the other one look archaic. Regardless it plays movies really well with the odd 'blip' in the movie once or twice. I agree that the sound is a bit 'tinny' without earphones, but most of these players are designed for the backseat of a car - typically for children. What parent wants to listen to Barney over and over. Hence the addition of earphones. The double earphone jacks - one on each side of the unit - are great to share with a friend. It sounds sad... but I can't wait to take this thing camping! So much for getting away from it all.
