I bought this just after Thanksgiving 2005. It died on Dec. 21st, 2005. It was just sitting on a table playing a dvd. No one was touching it. The dvd was less than a month old but played on this machine earlier that day. Suddenly the picture froze. Tried to 'fast forward' and go to 'next' but nothing happened. Turned machine off and then on again. (I waited 20 seconds before turning it on 'just in case'.) Got a 'bad disk' error message. Tried again, same thing. Tried different movie (that had previously played in this machine). Same thing again. Took out the dvd and closed the lid. I got the same error message ('bad disk'). (I thought this was interesting because you normally would get a 'no disk' error message.)
