A nice little camera for a relatively nice price
Pros
Relatively inexpensive, many functions and modes
Cons
Rather hard to navigate and it does eat batteries.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a good point-and-shoot.
Where I purchased this item: Walmart
Price Paid: 89.99
After the sudden death of my previous digital camera, which was oddly enough brand new, (I won't go into detail exactly how it died, let's just say it was entirely my fault)I went looking for a new one around Christmas two years ago and found this one at Walmart.
The Polaroid i834 is an 8.0 megapixel point and shoot digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. It comes neatly packaged with a weatherproof skin, quick start guide, registration card, wrist strap, USB cable, AV cable, 2 AA batteries and installation software that includes ArcSoft PhotoStuidio, ArcSoft VideoImpression, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and the User Guide in PDF format. It also includes a very lenghty (108 pages) User Guide that is extremely helpful (and needed) in learning what all this camera can do.
The camera does come with a small amount of internal memory but for best results (and most images) I'd recommend at least a 1GB SD card. It has three modes for recording: still images, video, and audio. You can choose a start up image that will show for a few moments on the LCD display every time the camera is turned on (much like a background for a cell phone).
The camera will show the number of pictures remaining and has several modes for taking still pictures including portrait, landscape, party, backlight, night scene, snow, candlelight, kids, and more. You can use the flash or not and it does have a red-eye reduction feature. It also has the capability to take continuous pictures, a time delay setting, and a camera shake warning.
The bad news:
I really wish they would have put an internal recharable battery into this camera as it does eat batteries like crazy. I'd recommend investing in a recharger and some rechargeable digital camera-quality batteries.
Also, it is rather hard to navigate. The buttons are small and hard to push, and the display, not covered by anything is prone to scratches unless kept in a case.
Overall though this is a very good camera, I think, for the price. It takes nice clear pictures in a variety of formats. Oh, and it comes in a variety of colors as well, mine is purple!
