The Bottom Line:
This camera is surprisingly advanced and well designed with plenty features and affordable price!
SO IT IS PINK!
When my friend bought this camera I was laughing first. It looks little flimsy, it is not a Canon or Nikon and to top it all it is pink..
But after seeing the photos she printed straight from the camera I was impressed! My friend is by no means a pro when it comes to taking pictures, she told me that she just left the camera in the Q mode and kept shooting.
Photos looked very good. Great colors, most of them were clear and brilliantly focused. There was few funky ones but I'd blame my friend from not staying still while snapping them more than the camera from those unsuccessful prints.
This camera is small but loaded with features. It is way under 4 inches times 2 1/2 inches wide and under 2 inches thick. So it fits in your pocket or purse nicely. It weighs under 6 ounces without the batteries!
Camera comes with large 2.5" LCD display so you will know what you are shooting easily. Built-in flash and red eye reduction are there. To get 7.1 megapixels for $150 is a great deal! You can blow out your photo up to 11x14 without loosing any detail. And you can crop them and do any editing you like on the software and still end up with good sharp photos.
This camera has 15 different modes! While my friend does not care about playing with any of them and keeps it in the Q mode which automatically selects the best mode I loved that you actually select: sunset, backlight, fireworks, snow, portraits, landscape, night scenes, food, buildings, text and children. And there is even a movie and voice recording mode. The movie did not come out too clear when I tried but still it was watchable..
Burst mode takes either two or four photos in a row so you do not miss the action! Self timer with either 2 second or 10 second setting let's you get in the photos yourself.
You can also take your pictures in black and white, sepia tone, as a negative, or in red, green and blue effects.
There is the resolution mode, I'd keep it in the highest but if you do want to take a lot of photos just for computer viewing without printing them, you can lower the resolution and take lot more pix!
You can change the white balance for daylight, cloudy, fluorescent, tungsten but I think the automatic white balance does excellent job without messing with the settings.
Great feature in this little camera is the 3x optical zoom and you can even crop the photo smaller before saving it bringing your subject closer for printing straight from the camera without extra editing! It also has 4x digital zoom. My friend is doing all her cropping right on the camera and loving it..
She also loves the personalised pic she can add to the opening screen. Her boyfriend is showcased in it right now!
This camera comes with two AA batteries. You will need to replace them with rechargable batteries so if you don't have recharger yet, do yourself a favor and pick one up, they are so cheap, you can get a set with batteries for about $10-$15 these days! It will be one of the best buys you ever made, no more replacing and buying new batteries, just keep charging them! Plus those rechargable batteries work on digital cameras much better than one time use batteries.
You will need to buy a memory card with it, don't get suckered to spend about $50 for an 1GB SD card, some retailers will try to sell it to you. If you look around, you can buy the 1GB SD as low as $15! I believe they all work about the same. There is 16MB built in storage in this camera but that does not get you too far so get the SD card.
This camera comes with USB cable to hook in to your computer, AV cables to view photos on your TV, ArcSoft software for easy editing in your computer. Camera has wrist strap, no case or lens cover, lens automatically opens when you turn the camera on.
Another great thing about this little fun camera is that it is part of the "Pink Products" which support Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Polaroid contributed $60.000 to the foundation, Elizabeth Hurley is their spokesperson for this product. According to Polaroid website this camera will be available through March 31, 2007.
The colors you can choose are Pink, Light Pink or Magenta. All come with Silver Accents.
Camera is compatible with both PC and Mac.
Overall my friend is in love with her new toy and this camera actually makes her look like a decent photographer, photos are so much better than the ones she used to take!
