The Bottom Line:
As I said before, Polk R-series is the best bang for the buck.
It's been a while I was looking for those R30 speakers from fry's that went on and off the sale price of $39.99 a piece. Finally I told to myself that I need them for sure and pulled the trigger on a sunny day! I had to call the CSR at Outpost.com in order to be able to get a pair of them since their website did not allow me to do so. With shipping, total cost came down to $105. These guys are heavy, 32 lbs each, so that speaks for itself in terms of shipping cost.
I had a not so serious health situation and I called my office teh day these speakers were suppose to be delivered! Anyway, long story short, DHL shipped the speakers in good shape.
As seen previously, R series speakers have some unusually good built/workmanship quality. R30 is no different. The black finish is excellent (I would rather have the cherry, since these are nicer). Upon opening teh grills, I double checked teh speaker/tweeter assemble to be physically perfect.
Next thing I did was to hook them up to my Onkyo receiver (65W per channel). The receiver is connected to my PC thru a digital coaxial input. I turned the system on and the speakers started speaking.
For the first few hour I just let them burn with some boomy heavy metals. After that I seat down to evaluate teh sound quality. In a word, it is outstanding. Middle and high range is excellent. Low range sound, that is bass is a little weak but nothing compared to the reviews elsewhere. However, my experience may be taken with a grain of salt as I live in an apartment. However, that shortcoming can very well be compensated with a graphic equalizer, I just did it from Windows Media Player. However that is needed in very few cases where the music demands. Most of the time I leave the bass at its default settings.
Overall, I am highly impressed with the quality of these speakers.
