CURVE vs. PEARL

Pros Thinner than traditional blackberrys; sleek design, quility voice and sound. Trackball is awesome
Cons bigger than the pearl, Cannot record VIDEO, though it plays video files
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  It's a hot phone that actually does everything, except video recording
I finally got this phone after I had the Pearl for about 6 months..... The pearl was excellent as a phone, but was lacking as an email portal.....

It all depends on what you think you want. originally I wanted a quality phone, with the ability to do some emails and internet. Thats exactly what the Pearl (8100) offers. The problam came as I became more intrested in writing large emails, and surfing the internet for information. the pearl just didn't cut it anymore.

THE CURVE, solved all those problems because of the following:

-The curve has a much bigger LCD to surf the internet and type up emails.
-It has a full keyboard, though the keys are alot smaller than the pearls (the Pearl shares 2 keys on each buton)
-The camera and Music Player software is much better
-The quilty of the picture seems twice as sharp.

If you are on the fence between the Pearl and the Curve, go for the CURVE! it is exactly the same in most other ways... the curve is bigger, but still very slim and easy to work with. They both have ecellect voice quality.

I had to join a family plan to get the Curve as I was still in between contracts. i gave the Pearl to my mom...

By the way, I used to be a Windows Mobile fan, but once I got a Blackberry, it's lights out for Windows mobile!

I have the Enterprise BB Email option, which cannot be touched by Windows Mobile......

Notes:
*It comes with a stero headset with microphone to answer calls
*uses MicroSD Card - I got 2GB
*comes with hotsync cable for PC and it charges at the same time
*Has built in 2mp Camera with 5x digital zoom
*has lound speaker
*Supports pop3 email accounts
*cannot connect to an access point (internet is through ATT)
*I used the SIM card from my Pearl and transfered it to the CURVE, kept my number and works like a charm.

** for those of you who have never tried a Blackberry phone, look at it as a PDA mixed with a phone. There are many out there including Windows Mobile (smartphones) Phones. I had two windows phones and I have to tell you the Blackberry style OS is geared towards business... The early Blackberrys had questionable phone quality, while the new BB's like the Pearl, Curve, 8800 have superior phone qualites, yet retain thier supieior PDA qualities (email, clander, contacts)

What sets this apart form all other phones\pda's is it's ability to work with your company's Exchange email server. You instantly get email, calender, taks, contacts updated by the second; unlike windows mobile phones where you count on your desktop PC or an inferior pop3 process. (if your PC shuts off by accident, you get no email!).

Also note, that the BB Enterprise Email service will cost you an extra $45 a month on top of your regular voice plan... I pay $110 a month for both, so hopefully you job will pay for it.

There are other ways to use email via pop3, where you can link up your AIM.com, mail.com services to, but again, you should shell out for the unlimited data plan at about $24 a mo.....

Anyway, if your not getting this for business reasons... get yourself a sidekick or something... this is for serious users only!

***update 10/30/07
T-Mobile now has the Curve in different colors and it now supports Internet access via your wireless router... it also supports VOIP.... it's only on T-Mobile for now, so if you like T-Mobile go for it... I like Cingular's coverage much better so I'm glad I'm with them, though I didn't have a choice at the time.
