Installing this TV/VCR combo is very easy once you have the place where you want it to go, just connect the coax cable wire to the rear and the unit will run an auto channel set and clock set for you. Pretty easy I say.
Tip: Just make sure you cable TV is work or your home roof TV ant is working, or else this set won't adjust anything for you. Even if the power is off and then turns back on the set will still reset everything for you.
How really good is this TV/VCR combo?
Well I originally got this set for our basement gym, and I was going to get the Panasonic twin, which comes with the FM tuner, but decided for the price and features of the Quasar I was better off with this model. Both the Panasonic and Quasar are made by the same electronics company, just the top end is Panasonic Brand, you don't hear much about Quasar.
Overhaul I must say after 5 months of owning this unit I am very satisfied with the performance, quality of picture is very sharp, vivid colors, flesh tones are correct, and the black mask tube enhances the picture.
Sound is very good for being a mono, except on thing that the audio amp is weak even if you turn it up all the way.
Audio tip: For better sound connect the TV/VCR to your home stereo system or mini stereo system using 1/8 Y stereo adapters you find that at any electronic store or electronic department.
VCR is great for playing back your old recordings VHS stuff, or pre-recorded movies look so good in this unit. The only problem with this VCR since it's 2 heads you lose out of the cleaner search modes like you would have with a 4 head model under SP. With this unit you'll see more streaks but under SLP (EP) visual searching is better.
VCR Sound: Since this only has the one 1 track for mono you won't get full stereo sound like you get with most VCRs today. But with this unit the sound is just as good for what you would be using it for, home gym, den, office or the kitchen.
VCR recording is great at the slower mode SLP(EP) and SP also, this VCR isn't so noisy as the Panasonic single units out there when you rewind the tape. Quasar TV/VCR combo is very quite to operate. The timer is 1 month and 8 events and that is very easy to setup while you can only watch and record the same channel due to the fact of only one tuner is in the combo. But that's okay its small and compact just for watching while working out.
Cleaning tip: There is no Auto Head Cleaning feature with this TV/VCR combo only a warning message will appear when the 2 heads get clogged, telling you to clean the heads with a VHS tape cleaner.
I use dry type of cleaner, and really don't see much a difference with wet or dry except for the price.
Cable Tip: For those of you out there with Digital Cable TV, you can use a splitter and use the Quasar VV-1302 on your other cable channels that you also get using a regular box, but you won't get those digital channels.
Case in point Comcast Cable.
Last final words as for the money and features this model is a good value, if you need white model for your kitchen you'll need to buy the Panasonic TV/Combo cost more but they have the same features except for the FM Tuner. Quasar has a 20 inch model that's has a flat screen, but again space was limited for me and the 13 inch just fit into the space I had for it.
