The Bottom Line:
This TV puts the convenience of a TV/DVD/VCR in one place. No more having wires crossing everywhere. Great picture, great sound, and a great buy.
Okay, so I'm an electronics geek who knows a lot about televisions and many other things, so I find it necessary to share what I know. The RCA 27F501TDV is one of those televisions that I would like to talk about when helping someone make a buying decision.
I think this is a fly little TV/DVD/VHS combo. The TruFlat picture tube delivers a clear picture without a lot of the glare we tend to get from the regular screens we're used to. To be exact, the flat screen reduces glare by 60% compared to the standard tube. It also improves angled viewing so that you can watch t.v. from more angles within a room rather than having to be pretty much right in front of the screen.
The comb filter separates black and white detail from color information, which eliminates edge crawls and rainbow effects. This gives great picture resolution.
You've also got the DVD player that plays audio cds, CD-Rs, MP3, JPEG and WMA files. Some televisions have those capabilities and others do not offer you as many playing options as this combo does. My experience with this t.v.'s capability to play MP3 and JPEG files has been quite the positive experience and the sound that this t.v. conveys is pleasant as well. The 4-Head stereo HI-FI VHS proves this point with its awesome stereo audio reproduction and has great range.
This t.v. is Dolby Digital and DTS compatible and has a Low Noise Pre-Amplifier which minimizes audio and video noise. That allows pre-recorded movies to sound a lot clearer without the background air that these videos tend to possess.
Also, if you have other components such as surround sound systems, game systems, video cameras, and the like, this baby has stereo front and rear audio/video inputs with digital audio output.
I think it has a wonderful picture that adds realism to what you're watching, but to be honest, I have seen some Toshiba digital models that have a picture that is comparable to that of an LCD in its clarity. Yet, for the $400 dollar price tag this t.v. carries, it's a great value for the money.
