The Bottom Line:
This is a great appliance to have. I love the versatility and the under the counter installation. It allows music without sacrifice of counterspace.
I received this spacesaver radio/CD player as a Christmas gift this past year. Until then, I had been carting my old boom box from high school up and down the stairs every time I wanted to listen to the radio. This is FAR superior to that!!
This radio/CD player is very convenient. It?s nice to be able to have music while cooking dinner or cleaning the kitchen up. It is very easy to operate?all of the buttons are clearly labeled and actually do what they say. You can easily change from radio to CD by simply hitting the ?CD? button and then ?play?. To cancel ANY feature, just hit ?end function?. Very simple and easy.
The design of the radio is very pleasing to the eye. I?ve seen older models that were very box-y. This design seems much more sleek. The corners are rounded, it isn?t very large, and the buttons looks nice on the face of the radio. It also has a remote control that is very small. It fits quite nicely in my hand, but is a little small for my husband?s. The buttons are a bit too small for him to hit easily, but for me they are perfect. It has a magnet on the back so you can store it easily on the fridge. There is also a remote caddy on the right side of the radio if you would prefer to store it on the unit.
The directions on how to install the unit were a bit sketchy. We did easily figure it out on our own. All hardware is included. We only really needed a screwdriver to install in, but ended up using a drill to make the job easier on ourselves. All in all, it took about 45 minutes to install. I?m sure it could have been easier with only one person there. We had different ideas on how to install it the easiest way and spend most of that 45 minutes trying to persuade the other than the other way would be better. My husband?s way won out in the end, because he had the power tools. Other than the installation directions, the instructions were very clear on operation. Easy to follow and accurate.
However, the reception isn?t all that great sometimes. I?m not sure if that is because where we chose to mount it in the kitchen, or if it?s a design flaw. Sometimes certain stations are a bit more staticy that I would like. The volume on the radio stations does weird things. It will be very quiet and then get really loud for a few seconds and then get quiet again. This is during regular songs, not during the commercials. This only happens with the radio, not the CD player. Again, I think it might have something to do with reception.
The unit also has a light on it, which is really nice as a nightlight or just a little extra light on the counter below. I have really enjoyed my new radio/CD player and would recommend it to anyone who has very little counter space but would still like to have music in the kitchen.
