The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a quality video camera at a low price packed with features!
Shopping around at different stores to find a high quality and affordable video camera proved to be a task. So much a task, that I almost gave up on finding the camera that I wanted, until we made a trip to Wal-Mart. After looking at a couple of video cameras that were on display, I was getting disappointed all over again. Then, the last camera I picked up was the RCA CC6263 AutoShot.
When I picked it up off the display, I noticed right away how light it was and slim in design. Some of the other cameras that I had looked at were a bit bulky. And compared to the other cameras in the store, this one was the cheapest, at 279.00. Even though it didn't matter to my husband, the copper and black color of the camera made it very appealing to me. First appearances have to count for something, right?
I wanted to find out more about the features that the camera had to offer and I asked the sales clerk if I could take a look at the box. However, when the box was sat on the counter to us to look at, it really didn't say much about the features. The sales clerk opened the box and handed my husband and I the User's Guide. I wasn't really sure if she was allowed to open the box, but at that point, I really didn't care. I wanted to know more about this camera.
The first thing I noticed was all the accessories that are included. Along with the camera, the box included a rechargeable battery, AC adapter/charger, cassette adapter, shoulder strap, DC cable, cassette adapter battery and the clock cell.
Flipping through the book, the initial set up looked very easy! There were lots of features, most of them I had no idea what they were. I looked at my husband, and I said, "this is the one!". I am sure that he was happy to hear that our search for my ideal video camera was finally over.
It was very late by the time we arrived home. We were both tired, but couldn't wait to open the box and play with the camera. My husband did all the initial set up requirements like setting the clock, putting the clock cell in and selecting a recording mode, which all took about 3 minutes.
As we began to examine and "play" with the camera, we realized there were more features than we thought. There are way too many to list in this epinion, but here are the ones that I like best!
Auto Focusing- very easy! Just point and shoot!
Fades Button- seven different fade options that are really neat. Includes scroll, slide, door, corner, window, fader and mosaic.
Titles- Lets you select a preset title for your video. Includes Happy Birthday, Happy Holidays, Congratulations, Our Family, Someone Special, Vacation, Super Star and First. The only thing that I did not like about this is that it doesn't let you put in your own titles.
P (Program) AE Button- This includes your special effects. Using this button, you can give your recordings a brown tone like old photos, darken the picture and reduce the glare, give your video a hazy look, reverse the colors and make your video look like a negative image. These are just some of the many things that you can do with the PAE button.
Zoom In/Out Button- Very easy to zoom in and out on what you are recording at a touch of a button!
Color View Finder- This is one of the things I love about this camera! My mother's video camera has a black and white view finder and I hate it!
There are so many great features to this camera. The only thing that I didn't like is that I am not able to to put in my own characters on the titles. I love the slim design, lightness and easy operation, not to mention the low price. The video quality is outstanding also. This camera is great for capturing those priceless family moments on tape!
