The Bottom Line:
If you want or prefer VHS-C format, this is not a bad investment.
I bought this camcorder about 2 years ago at a Radio Shack. In retrospect, I would've preferred one in digital format, but at the time this one was more "economical". At any rate, now I have it (VHS) and I have used it a good deal, actually. To be honest, I can't really complain about this item in terms of reliability, image quality, and sound quality. The camera has a lot of "special effect" functions (fade-in/out, color shifts, etc.) that I can't say much about, since I don't use them. But they're there if I ever want to, I suppose! The zoom functions extremely well, and when combined with the "steady-pix" image stabilizer, allows for some impressive long-range shots. I also rate highly the rotating color view screen for both quality and utility. Although the newer digital recorders have some technical advantages, this RCA VHS-C format recorder has not disappointed me...yet. However, the original battery just died - permanently - after countless rechargings. On it's best days, the battery (FB-1260) never provided more than about an hour of use, which was sometimes annoying. The camera is also rather bulky (thanks to the VHS format), compared to the compact digital models. You notice this mainly when packing for travel! All considered, I think I'll just get another battery and keep on using this thing as long as it keeps working well!! As I said, it's not bad at all for a VHS format recorder!
