DRC7005N unreliable at recording

Pros Watch one recording, while recording another. GUIDE Plus when it works. Convenient recording access.
Cons GUIDE Plus scheduling unreliable. Service is virtually nonexistent. System hangs, loses time, gets confused.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Do not buy this item.
I am keeping my DRC7005N but its problems are irritating and spoil what could have been
a happy adventure into "free (GUIDE Plus )" scheduled recording.

Due to its problems recording with GUIDE Plus scheduling, it cannot be relied upon to
capture what you schedule. GUIDE Plus gets "stuck", the software apparently goes into a loop. You have to unplug the machine. When recording it sometimes loses track of when to stop and just keeps
recording until the disk is full.

The manual does not match the device so one can only guess at what things like "regularly"
recording a show means. I don't have a "daily" so my guess is "regularly" is like "daily"? When the Universal Remote Control is programmed for another brand of VCR it also turns on an RCA VCR which
I have in the room.

Thompson support is of no help at all. Web email service help is nonexistent. They simply email a phone number (NOT 800) back to you to call since their online help really doesn't exist.
Calling gets representatives who apparently have no clue about this machine.
The recorder does not provide for watching while it is recording, i.e. there is no
"pass through" like VCRs provide with a TV/VCR button. RCA just tells you to split the
input before it gets to the recorder.
I am keeping the device because when is does record something it is convenient to access.

I'd love to have one of these with the bugs fixed and more disk space and some usability
improvements.

Some suggestions for improvement (after fixing the bugs):
a) Allow pause of live TV to be a long as possible (current is 45 minutes)
up to filling the disk.
b) Make an option which skips the "Menu" when the device is turned on.
c) Allow keeping the 'Info" display to stay on screen rather than "timing out". This is
needed when on is trying to skip to a particular time in a recording.

I cannot recommend that anyone buy this item, rather wait until RCA produces something that works correctly.
The big selling point for me was GUIDE Plus and with it not working correctly one could just
as well buy another brand of PVR.
