I was originally looking at Tivo or Replay TV. After reading less than favorable reviews on both, I decided to take my chance on the RCA DRC7005N. As far as I can tell, this is the first review of this unit.

Pros no subscription PVR!, plays MP3/DVD/AudioCD, 40G hard drive
Cons Unit continues to lock up and require a reset. Very slow tuner. Returned the unit
Recommended it? No

I am sorry to say I had to return my DRC7005N. It is a great idea, but has too many software problems. The unit continues to lock up. I don't think this is just my unit. Cons GUIDE Plus scheduling unreliable. Service is virtually nonexistent. System hangs, loses...

I am keeping my DRC7005N but its problems are irritating and spoil what could have been
a happy adventure into "free (GUIDE Plus )" scheduled recording.

Pros Versatile and cheap, and no monthly bills, we've had enough!
Cons Page up/dn control on remote could be located closer to the centered cursor controls

Pros Great product (when it works)!
Cons Getting repair support from RCA is a nightmare, and once you get it, it stinks!
Recommended it? No

This might be a great product when it is working, but if it breaks, you will be out-of-luck unless you happen to live close to an RCA repair center. I have a satellite receiver and I was aware that I would not have access to the program guide. No problem.
